30 years old. 36,083 miles, about 1,200 a year. Never sat in a basement, never once broke down on me. Turn-key: you get on, she starts, you ride. That's the whole story. The rest is receipts.

One photo is marked DAY PURCHASED, 3/4/2022 - that's her the day I brought her home, before anything. Compare it to the rest: different seat, sissy bar, controls, lights, cables, tires, exhaust, intake, turn signals. Everything else is what I put INTO this bike. She came off that lot looking like a dirt bike - I had my pick that day and chose her because I could already see this.

THE BUILD - new-old-stock 1200 Custom catalog parts, 1996 through 2000, most still sealed in the box when they went on. I have the catalogs and the factory manuals, and you can find the parts in the catalog pictures. Harley skipped the Custom a couple of those years, so a piece or two may be off a 2000 - same motor family, same fitment.

- 10" rise ape hangers - closest thing you can still get to the buckhorn bars this bike wore from the factory. All new cables with them: clutch, throttle, new brake line.

- Teardrop headlight conversion off a custom Harley. The old eyebrow-visor housing came off, the wiring was pulled and rerouted along the frame, and the teardrop went on with a new riser. Put a hardtail and springers under her and she's a full chopper.

- Single chrome speedo conversion for a clean bar view. The SPEEDOMETER IS ORIGINAL AND 100% ACCURATE. Stock was a dual gauge; every used holder I found was pitted, so I bought a new single. I still have the original tachometer and it goes with her.

- CORRECT-LENGTH NOS SHOCKS, sealed in the box, never unwrapped until the day they went on. Somebody before me had short 10-1/2" shocks on her - with real weight those bottom out and the tire kisses the fender. I hunted down the proper factory-spec set and installed them myself. Both sets are photographed side by side on a tape measure. She is a proper two-up bike now - my son and I ride her together, about 275 lb between us, over mountain roads, and she's never bottomed once.

- Harley forward controls in, mid controls out - stretch out and ride her like a big bike.

- Stage 2 "big sucker" intake, carb rejetted and rebuilt, new diaphragm, new choke cable.

- 2" exhaust over the stock 1-7/8, factory burnt-blue tips. Stage 2 in, stage 2 out - she breathes.

- NEW TIRES, correct size, front and rear - rear last year, front the year before, maybe 2,000 miles on them since. Both were mounted by shops I trust - the front by an old-timer behind the Harley dealership who's been at it 40-plus years.

- NEW BRAKES front and rear, brake fluid changed, new brake line. The taller bars meant every line got replaced anyway, so I put good ones on.

- NOS ace-of-spades backrest pad - never used, still in the box when I got it, out of a New Jersey warehouse cleanout. The maker's original label is still on it and it's photographed. I was told it's an older piece. I CAN'T PROVE THAT, SO I'M NOT CLAIMING IT. What you see is an unused pad with its original label. The sissy bar and handlebars are the only NEW parts on her.

- SADDLEBAGS - heavy leather with fringe. I bought them used five or six years ago because I'd never seen a set like them. They arrived reeking of forest-fire smoke; six months of Murphy's oil soap brought them back - real moisture worked into the leather, not wiped-on shine. Behind the emblems they're stamped WAR EAGLE. I've tried for years to find who made them and I've got two possibilities I can prove neither of: a commemorative piece out of War Eagle, Arkansas, or a War Eagle chopper shop in California building bags roughly 1990-2000. So I'm claiming neither. What I can tell you is I've never found another set, and I looked hard. Honest note: one set of lace strings came loose and I never got it back on. Easy fix.

- THE CONCHOS on those bags - cast V-twin engine medallions. I won't call them one-of-a-kind because I can't prove what was produced. What I can tell you is I've searched for years, I've had other people search for me, and not one of us has ever turned up another set. Ask me for the back-stamp photos.

- Two-up pillow touring seat.

- MEMPHIS detachable windshield, on and off in seconds, comes with her. You'll only see it in one photo on purpose - I don't ride with it.

STRAIGHT TALK ON THE CHROME: it's real chrome, except two pieces. The lower motor covers on the clutch side and the shifter/brake side are a bolt-on cover kit, about $200, sitting over the ORIGINAL ALUMINUM, which is fine. Here's why: every original-chrome cover I could find for a '96 was pitted, and I wasn't putting a pitted part on my bike. Two lower covers. Everything else is the real thing.

THE PAINT IS STILL UNDER THERE. The black is a WRAP, not paint - it shifts through rainbow in the light. Peel it and you've got the original factory paint underneath, untouched, with the original tank stickers. I also ran a set of NOS 1982 stickers under the wrap because I liked them better than the '96 graphics - you can see them through it. Keep the wrap or take it off and have a clean original-paint Sportster. Professionally installed.

SHE DOES NOT LEAK. Not a drop. She did when the dealership sold her to me, after charging me eight hundred-some to "recondition" her, because whoever changed the oil never reseated the drain tube. I fixed it inside the first month and it has never leaked since, through many oil changes. You can see oil on the ground in the day-I-bought-her photo. That's theirs, not mine.

THE OIL IS DUE, ON PURPOSE. I don't change the oil before I sell something. I want you to pull it, smell it, and rub it between your fingers yourself. When a seller tells me every fluid was just done, I wonder what was in there before. It isn't filthy - it's yours to inspect and yours to change.

SHE IS NOT A SHOWPIECE. This bike has been ridden - winter, spring, summer, fall. I've had her out at 37 degrees. About 36,000 miles on a thirty-year-old motor and she has never once broken down on me. Want a garage queen that's never seen rain? Keep scrolling.

COMES WITH HER: the Memphis windshield, the original crash bar, the original tachometer, the full library - owner's manual, factory repair manual for this year, parts book plus the extended chrome parts book (you'll never hunt a part number or a torque spec), a spare carb rebuild kit, and the antique guardian bell. Riders know you don't buy your own bell - it has to be given. Consider it given.
