Harley-Davidson released the Shovelhead with the 1966 Electra Glide. It boasted an aluminum head with a different shaped combustion chamber and rocker arms attached to the rocker cover instead of to the head itself. The Electra Glide was a serious long distance tourer with a top speed just under 100 mph. A front disc brake was a welcome addition in 1972 and even at a hefty 738lbs the quarter mile time was a decent 15.42 seconds. The first Classic FLH appeared in 1977. An electronic ignition was introduced in 1978 and displacement was increased from 74 to 80 cubic inches at that same time. This bike was completely overhauled over a 3 year period ending in 2011 during which time the engine was rebuilt and all of the major components were powder coated including the frame, swingarm, oil tank, battery tray and skid plate. Everything was restored or replaced during the restoration. Within the last 6 months it has been completely serviced including fork seals, all cables, fluids, filters, tires, tubes, battery and much more. Mechanically it is in perfect condition and aesthetically it will make your jaw drop. If you do not like crowds do NOT buy this bike as everyone will want to talk to you about it everywhere you go. Between the cost of the bike and all of the dollars spent to keep it looking like it does and running like a top close to $30K has been invested in this beauty.
