2000 HD FAT BOY / BRAND NEW MYSTERY DESIGNS TRIKE CONVERSION

Low and wide by Harley with unsurpassed independent air ride rear suspension by Mystery Designs and NASCAR, this trike has power to spare and grabs the road like a slot car.

The drive train is seamless because the Mystery rear end picks up the Harley belt drive right where the Fat Boy hands it over. (see photos)

Highlights: Classic Fat Boy, New trike conversion, Street legal and licensed in Washington State, 88 V-Twin, All new rubber, New Wilwood rear disk brakes, 9.5 inch wide Corvette wheels, Trailer hitch, Oversize gas tank, Custom quick release seat mount and easy out battery, Independent rear suspension, Adjustable air shocks, Awesome wide track tires, Low Fat Boy profile, Fiberglass body, Harley roar and rumble.

If this got your attention, there's more.

The Harley is a 2000 Fat Boy with certified engine mileage of 26577. The engine was spec checked and thoroughly tested prior to purchase by an HD “PHD” Mechanic, trained and certified at UTIs MMI in Phoenix. The fuel system and engine electronics were updated, the carburetor was rebuilt with a new carb kit and, with the exception of removing the head, the engine and transmission were opened up, inspected, cleaned, lubricated, seals and gaskets were replaced, all fluids were replaced with AMSoil premium motorcycle products and the engine tuning tweaked to peak performance by a master mechanic who inspects Harleys for extended warrantees. The Fat Boy profile gives this trike a low, road hugging center of gravity.

With a NASCAR engineer, Mystery Designs developed an unprecedented, independent rear suspension system that optimizes roll-centers for high speed cornering. This has resulted in a machine that rides comfortably but tightly and corners aggressively without tire lifting. With four adjustable air ride shock absorbers, (see photos) the ride can be tuned the way you like it to accommodate the load and the expected terrain. The enhanced performance and improved handling ensure a ride that is a cut above that of fixed axle trikes. Add new 9.5 inch 2006 model Corvette wheels and factory fresh ultra wide 275/40R-18 tires (see photos) to stick it on the road and you have the perfect platform for a custom trike that’s meant to be ridden hard.

Both the Fat Boy and the Mystery Designs trike conversion were purchased in late 2008. The mechanical work was done by late 2009 and the frame was powder coated black. The trike was first advertised in late 2010, but spring opened up the option to ride and fuss with it to get it lower to the ground, add a new oversize 5.1 gallon tank - J&P 720895, and a new front skirted fender with flip - J&P 7100180 (Both of these parts have a zinc based rust coating and are primed - photos).

Then we added enough lights and mirrors to get it inspected and street legal and licensed so we could get some bugs in our teeth. Here’s what we know for sure: There is no other trike like this one anywhere.

It’s both quick off the blocks and fast and very smooth through the gears. The only word that comes to mind when you downshift into a turn is that it feels like it squats down into the curve, almost as if it were pressing a banked turn out of a flat one. You really feel like you’re sitting in it rather than on it because of the low slung Fat Boy chassis and the independent rear suspension. With Wilwood high performance rear disk brakes, it stops on a dime. It already turns a lot of heads. And above all else, it sounds like a Harley should sound!

I have a fixed axle HD trike conversion by Lehman and it's not even in the same league as this Mystery Designs conversion.

Imagine what could be done with some wiring, fiberglass and imagination to build this one-of-a-kind platform into a best of show. The hard work’s done – the rest is a great opportunity to express yourself.

Price reduced to $23,575 and we'll subtract 50 cents for every mile we ride off of it before you ride it away, fob Sequim WA, Original receipts are available for all major and most other parts and trade labor.

The low center of gravity of the Fat Boy, with the NASCAR influenced independent rear suspension, Wilwood brakes and the grip of those monster Corvette tires team up for an unsurpassed ride.
